Scholarship Funds
In December 1967, an organizing committee of church members formed to consider having a preschool at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. At that first meeting, they looked at possibilities for the school and identified the need for scholarships in order that all children could have the opportunity to benefit from a preschool experience. To support that philosophy, a scholarship fund was developed to offer full and partial scholarships to children. The fund was named for Kelly Green, the 5 year old daughter of Russ and Marilyn Green, who died of a liver disorder. Marilyn was one of the five original organizers of the preschool.
During the first school year in 1968-69, twelve scholarships were given by church members. Later, donations were received from foundations, and fundraisers were held in addition to donations from church members and the church. Since the school’s beginning, scholarships have been provided to over 600 children from the Kelly Green Memorial Scholarship Fund.
In 2018, we expanded to include 2 scholarship funds. The newest fund is named in honor of Wray and Charlotte “Chottie” Clapp. Chottie was a long time Fairlawn Church member, teacher, volunteer, and Policy Committee member of the preschool.
